Excited?

|

"so, are you excited?"

I get asked that a lot recently - I leave tomorrow - and most people expect answers along the lines of "oh heck yeah".  Truth be told though what I mostly am is scared.  Leaving my friends, family, home, dog, all of it - even for a little while - is scary, it should be.  I'm sure everything will change once I'm there, it usually does for me, but I'm still going to miss them.

Part of it is traveling alone I think.  I really wish I were traveling with Aimee again, but that's just not possible right now (bah, work).  Despite what my pop says, not all women are bad travelers - she was great in Italy.  So if you ever read this aimee, congrats on breaking his rule I suppose :)

I'm almost finished packing everything.  I never realized how much crap I had until I had to start puting it in boxes.  I'm up to 15 12 gallon stacking tubs, a few larger boxes for movies and DVDs (perhaps I own too many), several large misculaneous items and then all of the furniture.  It's going to be interesting to try and find a place big enough to house all of my crap yet still affordable when I get back.

Halo

|
I work next to the demo room. They like bass in the demo room.

Rumble Rumble, they're demoing Halo today. Last week it was ReVolt - so loud a book fell off my shelf.

The sound rent the wall in two in late april, two foot long cracks along a support column. Perhaps it's just the carpenter in me, but I'm thinking that's not a good thing.

what's that damned ringing?

Man pays $550 on ebay for a replica of the "Flux Capacitor" from the back to the future movies (not the one actually used for filming).

Everyone laughs. Stupid man with an AOL acount wasting money. hahaha.

Same man buys a replica of the "Time controller circuit & switch - replica" off ebay for $91

Everyone chuckles - Man this guy likes those movies! what an idiot - *chuckle*

SAME MAN buys a DeLorean for $21,000 and is high bidder on another for $15,300.

Everyone looks around nervously.

Primo Burger sells burgers with a slice of grilled pineapple on them - and I really like it. So today I go get a burger for lunch and ask if they have any pineapple. The girl behind the grill says yes and grabs me a cup. I ask her to put it on the burger and she looks at me kind of funny. I insist that it's really good and that I eat it all the time so she does - she says she'll try it some time. The guy that came up to order overhears this whole conversation and decides to give it a whirl too. "hey, I like pineapple and I like hamburgers so why not" was his argument. By the third order the girl decides she's going to recommend that they have this as a special item on the menu.

Look at me, changing the world, woohoo.

Projects

|
I need a section/page/whatever for my projects up here. The problem is I have like no intermediary steps for any of my projects. Built two arcade cabinets, but all I can show are the finished products. I suppose I could toss up the measurements for the cocktail cabinet since they were sort of odd, but I don't have pictures or anything from the construction. Game table - finished as well. I could probably do something with the Computer-In-An-Xbox retrofit, but that's not likely to be a repeated project since comming by non-functional Xbox cases is harder than one would imagine :).

Well I'll have to open it up for Matt as well then, since he's off playing Boeing Machinist for a week I'm sure he'll have lots of stuff to put up.

But I think mostly I just don't want to keep writing documentation. 12 pages so far. single spaced. Well at least I've figured out how most of the tool works again.

3 weeks of work left

|
Only three weeks (and a day I suppose) of work left. It's not going to be enough time to finish everything so I no longer have to make certain to finish everything - to quote dilbert "of all my projects, I think I like the doomed ones the best".

Is it bad I hope my replacement sucks so that they'll want to hire me back that much more?
